This colourful pink, red and forest green modal french terry fabric is quite the unexpected! Unlike our cotton french terries which tend to have more structure, this is draping a fabric as you can imagine. It’s also an extraordinarily soft fabric with a smooth and refined knit on the right side that belies its casual origins. French terry fabrics are as easy to work with as they are to wear; like familiar friends in our wardrobes.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our pink & green modal french terry fabric is a loop-backed jersey knit, made from modal but with just enough elastane for a resilient stretch-and-return. Modal is a cellulose-based viscose-like fabric, but particularly soft. It’s breathable, durable and washes well.
What does this fabric feel like?
The fine yarns used in this forest green modal french terry means that the ‘right’ side has a beautifully-smooth feel; the looped inside has a soft and comforting texture.
How does this fabric move?
Our colourful pink and green modal french terry fabric a surprisingly fluid knit; it hangs and swings with character and falls into soft folds. It has approximately 25% stretch-and-return across its width, with 60% down its length. You can see how it drapes and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Our abstract floral modal french terry fabric has great opacity; tops, hoodies, tunics and even trousers won’t need lining. This is a fabric that will be so comfortable next to the skin and which won’t embarrass you either.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics, hoodies, sweater dresses – the list is endless! You could try a simple pair of pull-on lounge trousers, cropped with a slight flare – you wouldn’t even need to hem them – just let the bottoms roll up slightly for a casual finish (this fabric won’t fray!).
We think the ‘Sheridan’ Sweater from Hey June Handmade would be a great pattern for modal french terry fabrics. With multiple elegant sleeve options and a choice of necklines, it’s a pattern that adapts to a number of knit types.
