Elegant blouses and longer-length, fluid dresses continue to prevail in the AW collections. We think this black, silver and camel printed crepe-de-chine fabric is the perfect way of channelling that look but in an understated and very grown-up way. The print pattern is abstract but suggests a cascade of seed pods to our autumnal frame of mind.
What kind of fabric is this?
This fabric has the finely-textured surface you’d expect in a crepe-de-chine and we’d describe it as a lighter-weight dress or blouse fabric. Our black and camel printed crepe-de-chine fabric is a polyester cloth – but we think it’s a very refined one – and will have all the advantages of washability. In addition, its lighter weight and the weave structure ensures that it has some breathability too.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a smooth, refined and cool handle. It’s very soft and gentle next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Whether you decide to use it on the cross or hang it straight, our black and camel printed crepe-de-chine fabric loves to flow and ripple. You’ll need to take care to lay it out and pin carefully when working with it. A length of it swings and drapes with life and elegance as you can see in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Our silver, black and camel printed crepe-de-chine fabric has very good opacity for its weight; the depth of colour also helps. A top, blouse or tunic won’t need lining. You’ll probably choose to line, layer or wear a half-slip under a skirt or dress if you’re wearing it over hosiery in order to help with movement and to provide a little more opacity in the skirt department.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, blouses and dresses are all options for this distinctive fabric. Draping, less structured designs are always going to be its forte. We’re considering it as an option for our Slinky Shirt Kit – certainly the simple elegance of that design would play to its strengths. We used Vogue Pattern 9204 – we love its simplicity and elegance.
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees – see our Fabric care pages for more information.
