We love crepe fabrics for their elegant movement and gentle texture brought about by the classic crepe weave, created using highly twisted threads. We completely fell for this orange and charcoal printed crepe fabric; the print design has the appearance of being hand-drawn in charcoal and ink
What kind of fabric is this?
Our sketched charcoal printed crepe fabric is a polyester crepe which we’d describe as leaning towards the lighter-weight end of the medium-weight dress fabric bracket.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a crepe fabric, this is a fabric with a slightly textured feel. It will be comfortable to wear next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Our orange and charcoal printed crepe fabric is the kind of crepe that has a little crispness to the way it moves, preferring folds and ripples rather than fluid piles of fabric. You can see how it moves in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from this fabric, however a dress may require a bodice lining for structure depending on your pattern design. However it’s a sufficiently closely-woven fabric for undergarments not to show through. If you’re making a skirt or dress then unless you’re wearing it over bare legs, you’ll need a half-slip to enable this fabric to move freely against your body.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, blouses and tunic are all fabulous options for this draping orange and charcoal printed crepe fabric. Skirts and dresses are also on the cards although you’d probably want to choose less structured, more draping and flowing designs in order to make the most of the qualities of this fabric.
This ‘Ariel’ Wrap skirt from Style Arc with its bouncing ruffles is very ‘of the moment’ and would be perfect for this lively crepe fabric.
