Satins come in many forms and not all live up their initial promise. This wine satin fabric is one of a new selection of satin fabrics that we couldn’t resist. It’s been woven with highly-twisted yarns which give it a beautiful drape and a muted lustre on its surface. The satin weave is close and refined and it falls into rounded piles of indulgence in a way that has to be seen and felt to be fully appreciated.
What kind of fabric is this?
The composition of this wine satin fabric is polyester. We tend to avoid polyester fabrics as a rule but we feel that there are occasions when their quality and durability justify their selection. Our rich wine satin fabric has very good opacity for its weight; we’d describe it as a heavier-weight blouse fabric or a medium-weight dress fabric bracket.
What does this fabric feel like?
This wine satin fabric has a beautifully-smooth handle. It feels extremely luxurious and cool against the skin and we think it will be a delight to wear.
How does this fabric move?
Take a look at our video to see the seductive and elegant movement of our wine satin fabric. There are times when words can’t do justice to a fabric description; this is one of those occasions.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Blouses, tops and tunics won’t require a lining although such is the smoothness of this fabric that any lumps and bumps will be detectable so we’d tactfully suggest that smooth under layers are probably advisable. As a dress, a lining or a full-length slip will help with structure and line. This is a fabric you could opt to use as a lining in its own right – it would elevate a special coat to a whole new level
What can I make with this fabric?
Elegantly simple blouses, tops and tunics will be stunning, as will dresses. We suggest draped designs will play more to the strengths of this wine satin fabric. A simple shirt will take a starring role in this fabric – we have our eyes on the ‘Olya’ Shirt from Paper Theory in our current quest to try out classic shirt patterns in more draping fabrics.
