You’ll know by now that we’re suckers for a fabulous brocade; here’s another stunning number from Italy. This gold and dark turquoise floral brocade fabric makes a fabulous statement and as ever, we see absolutely no reason at all why you might want to save it for ‘best’. Wear it, and you’re lifting everyone else’s spirits as well as your own. As with most brocade fabrics, this one is relatively light weight, although deceptively sturdy. It’s a fabric with excellent opacity and the capacity to create volume in a statement jacket or sculptural skirt.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our gold and turquoise floral brocade fabric is a polyester fabric which has been woven in as a jacquard. It’s not double-sided but it is closely-woven, hence its opacity – and there are no annoyingly-long threads out the outside of the weave pattern.
What does this fabric feel like?
This is a fabric with a soft handle with the woven texture evident in the feel of the fabric. There are slight but intentional ruches in the dark marine teal of the background; these are intentional and add a real sense of depth to the fabric. Although it can be pulled out of shape on the bias, it springs back to the straight grain, making it surprisingly easy to work with.
How does this fabric move?
This is is a gently-structured, malleable fabric which doesn’t hang or drape except under its own weight. It’s asking for pleats and tucks to help sculpt soft angles and shapes. However it’s it’s very pliable and not bulky to work with. You can see how our gold and turquoise floral brocade fabric falls and moves in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
This gold and turquoise floral brocade fabric has excellent opacity for its weight. However we’d suggest a lining will help with the comfort of wearing this fabric as well as with structure, shape, and movement across other garments.
What can I make with this fabric?
Dresses and separates including skirts, dresses and jackets too, are all options for this exceptional fabric. Lightweight coats and coat-dresses are also worth consideration. The structure and texture of this fabric means that trousers probably aren’t appropriate.
We love the idea of a statement skirt and have been researching patterns that would make the most of such a unique fabric. Simplicity 8743 is one that we’ve come up with – you can go for a knee-length, maxi – or anything in between!
Hand wash separately or use the ‘delicates’ cycle to machine wash. Do not tumble dry.
Hand wash or use the ‘delicates’ cycle to machine wash. Do not tumble dry. If you line your garment, then spot- or dry-clean it as the lining may respond differently to being washed and the fit of your garment will be affected. Use a cool steam iron and a pressing cloth to press areas of the garment during construction where necessary, keeping the pressing light, and to a minimum. Find out more on our About our fabric pages.
