This stunning lilac and red wool herringbone tweed fabric is the kind of cloth that will remind you why you sew. It’s an absolutely delightful fabric; another of our wools from a British mill and we thrilled to have it glowing from its corner in the ClothSpot workroom.
Part of the beauty of this lilac and red wool herringbone tweed fabric (apart from those heart-lifting and unusual colours) is its weight and structure. It’s not a particularly heavy tweed but it’s closely-woven with beautiful-quality yarn. It has a smooth, refined handle and we’d describe it as a robust medium-weight suiting or a lighter-weight coating fabric. We think it will be remarkably easy to work with – it doesn’t fray too easily and will prove to be a ‘clean sew’ and one which presses to perfection. Its weight and fine weave combine to give it a crisp-ish folding drape which holds a shape as you can see from this video.
We think this lilac and red wool herringbone tweed fabric will prove to be a versatile cloth. Classic fitted jackets, winter skirts (longer A-line cuts or pencil skirts alike) or even a winter pinafore would all be options. Trousers wouldn’t be completely out of the question either – but probably more tailored designs. We like the idea of peg pleats and pockets, cropped over a pair of broques. But then, we would…
If you’re itching to put a bit colour into your wardrobe but using the best traditional fabrics, then this lilac and red wool herringbone tweed fabric is one to consider. Stepping away from clean un-pleated lines across the front seems like a big step. However we trust Style Arc’s trouser cuts and this ‘Audrey’ pant has a slightly lower waistline and comfortable fit that we think might be just the ticket for this fabric.
