Checked fabrics like this taupe, black and pink plaid viscose twill fabric aren’t just for winter wear. Especially when they come in crisp colour combinations like this one, we think they’re perfect for layering up and providing versatile wardrobe options across the seasons.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our black and pink plaid viscose twill fabric is a blend of viscose (also known as rayon) and polyester. They’ve been woven into a practical-yet-elegant, lighter-weight dress or tunic fabric (or a solid medium-weight shirt fabric, depending on your perspective).
What does this fabric feel like?
This plaid twill fabric has a very soft handle, comfortable next to the skin. The viscose element helps with breatheability and the polyester means that it won’t crease easily.
How does this fabric move?
Twill fabrics tend to drape well and our taupe, black & pink plaid viscose twill fabric is no exception. You can see how it falls into soft folds in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic as this is a fabric with excellent opacity for its weight. However a skirt or dress would need a lining or a half-slip to enable movement against the body, especially over hosiery. You’d also need to line it for strength if you were making a more structured garment such as a fitted bodice for a dress – in which case a self-lining would work well in terms of structure and comfort.
What can I make with this fabric?
We have this taupe, black and pink plaid viscose fabric lined up as a stylish tunic to wear over leggings in ‘in-between’ seasons. However this is obviously a classic ‘checked shirt’ fabric – in which case a pattern such as the Grainline Archer would be the perfect choice.
You can find out more about this design in our blog posts – it’s a very straightforward pattern that we’d recommend either for shirt beginners or anyone looking for a classic less-fitted shirt.
