We’re always on the lookout for jersey fabrics to help with cross-season weather. In the summer that usually means single-knit jerseys. However with this dark rust red ponte Roma jersey fabric we’re announcing AW19 as far as our knit collections are concerned..
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a versatile double-knit ponte Roma jersey fabric in a deep, rich shade of rust red. It’s rather too brown to be termed a burgundy or wine – but has more red in it than any brown really should – so it’s very much on the cusp within the colour spectrum. It’s a blend of viscose, polyester and spandex with a particularly refined appearance. You can find our more about ponte Roma jersey fabrics in this blog post.
What does this fabric feel like?
This is an exceptionally soft-handled double-knit. We’d describe our dark rust red ponte Roma jersey fabric as sitting firmly within the medium weight bracket of double-knits; it’s both pliable and easy to work.
How does this fabric move?
Our delectable rust red ponte Roma jersey fabric leans towards the more draping end of our ponte Roma jersey collection. It has an elegant swing and a folding drape. There’s a firm 15% stretch across its width and down its length. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
We’d be more than happy to recommend its use for unlined garments, including those with ‘waterfall’ fronts where both sides of the fabric are designed to be visible. Its smooth finish means that it would also be comfortable if worn next to the skin. A lining wouldn’t be required for any of these options, although you could choose to self-line the top of a dress or a fitted skirt for additional structure.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and dresses and draping outerwear are all options for this rich rust red ponte Roma jersey fabric. Trousers are also an option although we’d suggest that there’s not quite enough stretch here for you to use this fabric in closely-fitted leggings.
You might also consider more structured garments such as this ‘Morris’ blazer from Grainline Studios – the perfect slip-on-and-off jacket for summer and cross-season wear.
