Prepare to have your breath taken away. We certainly lost ours when we set eyes on this stunning green peacock printed velvet fabric. It’s a digital-printed Italian cloth with all the flamboyant style and quality you’d expect from that pedigree.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our peacock printed velvet fabric sits at the heavier end of the medium-weight velvet bracket. It’s a very closely-woven velvet designed to take this stunning print as faithfully as possible. It’s a polyester fabric – but we decided that for winter wear – and given the sheer quality of the cloth, we could make an exception for this fact. We recommend using a ‘sharp’ needle in order to sew this fabric since the weave is so close.
What does this fabric feel like?
This is a beautifully soft velvet fabric – it really does feel silky smooth. It has a fairly short pile running the length of the fabric. Those stunning feathers will need to point downwards on your garments in order that the pile runs in the right direction. This is a very pliable fabric but one with excellent structure.
How does this fabric move?
We think that for its weight, this amazing peacock printed velvet fabric has a particularly lovely drape and movement. You can see how it moves and drapes in this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
This is a near-opaque fabric which wouldn’t require lining for purposes of modesty. However you’d probably want to line a pinafore, skirt or jacket in order to provide a little structure as well as to enable movement across hosiery or over other layers of clothing.
What can I make with this fabric?
Jackets, even coats as well as dresses and skirts are all options for this exceptional fabric.
We’ve chose our extraordinary peacock printed velvet fabric as one of the options for our Winter Wrap Skirt Kit which uses Simplicity Pattern 8699 as the basis for a stunning skirt. Party dressing sorted in a single stroke.
