Very little can compete with the smooth, crisp quality of silk for adding a little classic luxury to your wardrobe. This palest peach silk twill fabric is a finely-woven, lighter-weight fabric, perfect for blouses, elegant shirts, camisoles and robes. The colour of this beautiful fabric is a fraction warmer than a dark cream and works particularly well with camel, olives, earthy browns and classic black.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a high-quality, lighter weight 100% silk fabric. It’s been woven in a twill weave pattern using with a very close weave that gives a very slightly lustrous satin finish. Finely-draping twill-woven fabrics like this one are often described as ‘foulards’ as they have traditionally been used for headscarves. This palest peach silk twill fabric is technically a medium-weight example of its type at 70gsm.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our palest peach silk twill fabric has a smooth, slightly crisp handle. It will be cool and soft next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
This is a fine cloth that loves to drape and bounce, falling into elegantly rounded piles. You can see how it moves and drapes in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The weave of this fabric is a distinctive diagonal twill and very close, with good opacity for its weight due to the fine yarns and close weave. You’ll be just fine with an unlined blouse or top however a silhouette will be visible in front of strong light and you’ll also want to ensure you’re wearing undergarments that don’t contrast with your skin tone.
What can I make with this fabric?
This fabric is perfect for tops, blouses and tunics but is probably a little too lightweight for a dress. In the lingerie department, a simple robe in this fabric would bring some classic elegance to your boudoir; it would also make a beautiful camisole for vintage-inspired layering.
We think the Tie Bow Blouse from The Assembly Line would make the most of the combination of gently-crisp structure and rounded drape of this pale peach silk twill fabric.
Sustainability
Silk production is a relatively sustainable process even though it involves the use of silkworms. This silk fabric is a ‘deadstock’ supply which was not manufactured for retail sale as a fabric; it’s left over from the garment industry and might otherwise be disposed of. We know that this fabric comes from a high-end design source; although is likely to have been organically produced using non-toxic dyes however we don’t have documentary evidence of this.
