Piqué fabrics are distinguished by their fine ‘waffle-like’ texture and they’re more usually knitted fabrics. However when we found this extraordinary woven version we just had to have it. The quality of this black viscose woven piqué fabric is exceptional; smooth next to the skin and a stunning drape, all in a finely-woven viscose yarn with excellent opacity.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is a 100% viscose cloth, woven in a fine piqué pattern with twisted threads. We’d describe it as a light-to-medium-weight dress fabric.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a textured ‘right’ side and a smoother ‘wrong’ side. It’s a beautifully-soft and breathable fabric which will be extremely comfortable to wear, including next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
Our black viscose woven piqué fabric drapes and ripples exceptionally well. It has enough weight that a length of it will swing and drape with life and elegance as you can see in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
Our black viscose wove piqué fabric has excellent opacity for its weight. A top, blouse or tunic won’t need lining. You might choose to line, layer or wear a half-slip under a skirt or dress if you’re wearing it over hosiery simply to aid movement and add a little structure.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, blouses and dresses are all options for this fabric. Draping, less structured designs are always going to be its forte. Slip dresses will work beautifully, given a little more interest by the surface texture of this fabric; draping jumpsuits will also be elegant and comfortable to wear. We think this relaxed ‘Riva’ Jumpsuit from Fibre Mood would be a lovely way of enjoying the comfort and the grace of this unusual fabric.
