Here’s a crisp printed poplin to catch the eye – the print design on this ivory and navy blue circled stretch cotton fabric will add a sharp edge to any outfit and is clear evidence of its high-end Italian origin. As you’d expect, the rich navy blue and black design elements pop against the ivory background on this lighter-weight cotton poplin. Despite the weight and colour of this fabric the close weave provides very good opacity for its weight and this is the perfect fabric for a shirt, top or dress. Elevate it with formal accessories or wear it over jeans – this fabric will find any number of wardrobe roles to play.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our navy blue circled stretch cotton fabric has just 2% elastane, providing a tiny bit of ease to help with fitting and easy wear. Poplin is a crisper, slightly heavier-weight fabric than a cotton lawn. It has a distinctive close weave, with a very lightly ridged surface which you can feel if you run a fingernail across it.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a soft, smooth and cool handle. It feels very fine yet it’s robust, stable and extremely easy to work with.
How does this fabric move?
The movement of this lively navy blue circled stretch cotton fabric is a soft, floating drape; crisper and with more structure than a cotton lawn – but still with a light drape and not at all stiff. You can see how it moves and drapes in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The close weave and the print pattern of this navy blue circled stretch cotton fabric remove the need to line a top or tunic since it has very good opacity for its weight, although you may want to avoid undergarments that contrast with your skin tone. A fitted bodice may require lining for strength and structure but a skirt or bottom half of a summer dress would be just fine in a single layer over bare legs.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think this fabric is perfect for cool, crisp cross-season tops and blouses. Dresses too would be fabulous options – classic strapped sun-dresses or perhaps designs which made the most of its lighter weight, with softly-gathered skirts. We’ve already suggested the Anthea Shirt pattern for our shirting – but we can’t resist the Anthea Dress from Anna Allen as an option for this cotton poplin fabric. Worn by itself at this length in the summer – or over jeans or leggings, we think it’s the perfect opportunity to show off this fabulous print pattern.
