Imagine you fell asleep found yourself in a dream world looking something like a glass house in Kew gardens. We don’t think there’s a single type of leaf that hasn’t made an appearance in this extraordinary foliage printed viscose challis fabric. It’s full of autumnal browns, rusts and reds – with subtle powder blue and glimmers of sunshine yellow thrown in for good measure. We’ve included an image of the fabric laid flat so you can see the full potential to position your favourite bits where you want them in your garment. It’s come to us via a well-known high-end design house and that quality is evident in the look and the smooth feel of this fabric.
What kind of fabric is this?
This is is a lovely-quality, medium-to-lighter weight viscose fabric. It’s been woven in a plain weave pattern. The print design is in a large scale (see our image with a ruler) and provides the opportunity to place the different colours and design elements strategically across your garment.
What does this fabric feel like?
Our foliage printed viscose challis fabric has a particularly smooth handle. It will be cool and very comfortable next to the skin.
How does this fabric move?
As with most viscose fabrics, this is a cloth that loves to flow and ripple. You can see how this dramatic foliage printed viscose challis fabric moves and drapes in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The weave of this fabric is plain and fairly close, with good opacity for its weight due to the print design. You’ll be just fine with an unlined blouse or tunic and for less formal, more carefree occasions an unlined dress or skirt in this fabric will be perfectly acceptable, especially in draped designs. However a silhouette may be visible against the sun and so depending the design of a dress or skirt, a plain cotton lawn lining or a half-slip might be advisable. Shadows from contrasting undergarments may be visible through the lighter-coloured areas of this fabric.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think our riotous foliage printed viscose challis fabric will be perfect for tops, shirts, tunics and dresses too. Simple designs will make best use of its extraordinary print. The ‘Sadie’ Top from Style Arc will use the drape of this fabric in the distinctive sleeves and the simple shape will work well as a layer under a jacket or cardigan too.
