Well come *on* people – did you really expect us to pass up a fabric like this fabulous blue and gold cotton brocade fabric? Like a wander round the Kew Palm House at night, the gold, black and mauve foliate design just stole our hearts. Those flowers and leaves pop out from the geometric-woven background and give such a sense of depth to this blue and gold cotton brocade fabric.
The composition of this fabric includes cotton and viscose – both of which help with the softness of the handle and the gentle drape that you can see in this video. The complex patterned weave structures are held close to the surface of the fabric however – so despite the soft handle this isn’t a delicate fabric, although we probably wouldn’t want to do the gardening in it. You can see its gentle movement in this video.
We’d describe our blue and gold cotton brocade fabric as being the equivalent of of a substantial suiting fabric in terms of structure – although it doesn’t have the weight that you might expect. It has very good opacity and it’s both pliable and stable to work with.
As with many of our brocade fabrics, we think that the shaping, almost sculptural qualities of this type of cloth are crying out for pleats and tucks to provide shape. Given the time of year, we’d suggest that this blue and gold cotton brocade fabric might be a rather wonderful choice for a cross-season coat or even a cape, perhaps? You could take a look at this ‘Nell’ Cape pattern from Style Arc, which we think would provide the maximum opportunity to showcase this marvellous and striking fabric.
