With the appearance of coloured oils floating on water, our soft green, slate and aqua blue printed cotton lawn fabric is a painted, watery delight. As cool to wear as to look at, we think it will be the perfect fabric in which to waft away a summer’s day.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our soft green and blue printed cotton lawn fabric is a lighter-weight, closely-woven cotton lawn. It’s woven from long-fibred ‘Pima’ cotton; strong, fine cotton yarn which results in a smooth, refined and high-quality cloth.
What does this fabric feel like?
This fabric has a soft, smooth and cool handle. Although there’s a light texture, it’s very soft and not at all stiff.
How does this fabric move?
The movement of this aqua blue printed cotton lawn fabric is a soft, floating drape which will catch a breeze with elegance, as you can see from this video.
Will I need to line this fabric?
The close weave and the print pattern of this green and blue printed cotton lawn fabric remove the need to line a top or tunic. You might choose to line, layer or wear a half-slip under a skirt or dress unless you’re planning to wear it for a less formal occasion, since your silhouette will be visible if you’re standing in front of the sun. We don’t think that’s a problem in a summer frock but you might! Our ‘Placket’ plain white Pima cotton lawn fabric would be an option as a bodice lining or as a skirt lining if worn over bare legs.
What can I make with this fabric?
We think this fabric is perfect for summer tops and blouses – and, we think, gently-falling maxi dresses. We’d be inclined to make the most of its lighter weight with ruches and softly-rolling gathers, bringing body and movement to a garment without bulkiness. However we also think it would make a very cool summer shirt, for which you might want to consider our ‘tried & tested’ favourite Vogue 8772.
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees – see our Fabric care pages for more information.
