Our rich purple viscose jersey fabric is a lovely-quality single-knit for which we think you’ll find any number of wardrobe applications. The shade of purple here is rich and deceptively deep but it’s not in the least harsh or brash. It’s perfect for A/W layers as well as for taking the stage in its own right, either as a dress or relaxed loungewear.
What kind of fabric is this?
Our muted purple viscose jersey fabric is a draping single-knit jersey. We’d describe it as a solid medium-weight single knit fabric, the kind that’s difficult to gauge from a snippet, but once you have a metre or two in your hand, you can feel that it has real substance and character.
What does this fabric feel like?
As you’d expect from a viscose jersey fabric, this is a fabric with a very soft, smooth handle. It will be comfortable to wear next to the skin and it’s breatheable too.
How does this fabric move?
Our understated purple viscose jersey fabric is very much a draping knit with a fluid movement. It has approximately 45% stretch down its length and about 20% across the width of the fabric. You can see how it moves and stretches in this video.
NOTE: Our videos are intended to show the movement of a fabric. For accurate colour and pattern detail, please refer to our still images.
Will I need to line this fabric?
You won’t need to line a shirt, top or tunic made from this fabric, however a dress may require a bodice lining for structure depending on your pattern design. Unless you’re wearing it over bare legs, then you’ll need a half-slip to enable this fabric to move against your body.
What can I make with this fabric?
Tops, tunics and dresses are all options for this classic purple viscose jersey fabric. You’ll need to find a pattern intended for a knit fabric; garments with more draping designs will work particularly well, as will those which incorporate elements of ruching and negative ease.
This ‘Olivia’ Wrap Dress from Named Clothing would be a way of making an elegant statement with this jersey.
