For those of you planning still to brave the passport queues and head off to warmer climes, our delightfully-summery purple floral voile fabric is just the thing for wafting around the harbour or a continental market square on a warm summer evening. We’ve teamed it here with our ‘All hands on deck’ stretch white cotton twill fabric to show how it has the potential to lift a plain white fabric to truly heroic levels on the holiday style front.
This is a wonderfully-floating semi-sheer fabric in a classic voile weave but for a fabric of this nature it is relatively stable and has a surprisingly crisp handle. This doesn’t get in the way of its ability to waft and float as you can see from this video.
There’s a depth to this purple floral voile fabric which we think arises from the very slightly pearlised yarn that has been used to construct the fabric. It lends a very subtle shimmer and reflects the light just a little more than you’d expect.
We think this is a fabric perfect for creating a simple kimono-style overshirt that will work across your summer wardrobe. The purple and greens in the floral pattern look beautiful with paler denims; alternatively this is a fabric that will make the ubiquitous plain white t-shirt look special enough for a night out.
We think this Simplicity Kimono Pattern would be the perfect last-minute sew.
Failing all of that – just settle down one evening to hand-sew a rolled hem on a piece of your choosing and drape it around your neck with a favourite dress or blouse. What could possibly be more ladylike?
Wash by hand or on a ‘delicates’ machine cycle at 30 or 40 degrees – see our Fabric care pages for more information.
