We’re frequently astounded by the extent to which the wrong size print can spell disaster for a fabric in terms of wearability. Large prints can look a bit scary on the peg but in fact they can work fantastically when worn. Conversely, an apparently innocuous, smaller repeat can look overpowering, depending on the colour and design. For this reason, please don’t run scared of this striking leaf-printed crepe fabric – we think you’ll be surprised at its versatility and wearability.
We’re offering this stunning leaf-printed crepe fabric with an eye to the recent success in SS15 of our ‘Big, bold and blue’ printed cotton fabric. Take a look at how customers used that fabric in our ClothSpot Creations blogroll. We think you can be confident that the bold, curving, stylised foliage pattern of this leaf-printed crepe fabric will work real magic with the drape and shape of your garment. We look upon it as a slightly ‘dressier’ version of that cotton and we’re confident of its ability to create an eminently wearable outfit.
Our leaf-printed crepe fabric has a fabulous drape – just as you’d expect from a crepe fabric. It’s not a triple crepe but it’s far from being a flat fabric. It has a slightly crisp textured handle on its face, with a smoother feel to the reverse of the fabric. As a dress fabric it’s a heavier-weight cloth – it has the weight of a lighter-weight suiting although we suspect with this pattern a suit is probably not top of your list of potential garments. We suggest dresses, tops, tunics and even coat-dresses would all be fabulous opportunities to show off not only the pattern but also the drape, weight and swing of this leaf-printed crepe fabric.
The shade of blue is hard to represent in our images, especially contrasted with the clean, fresh ivory of the leaf designs. However we can tell you that this is a true, deep midnight navy blue. It’s not a grey blue – and definitely not a black, either – although at first sight you might be mistaken. It has very good opacity for its weight, although we should warn you that if you self-layer this leaf-printed crepe fabric for any reason, the stark contrast of the two colours will show through the ivory on the top layer. You might want to line this for added weight, structure and movement – and if so then we’d suggest our Ivory satin fabric as a good option. This is a polyester cloth but with that comes washability (although not necessarily if you’ve lined it!) and durability.
We’ve pictured this fabric with our Midnight blue worsted wool fabric. The dark blues are very slightly different shades but their depth means that we think they work well together – there’s dress-and-jacket potential with these two we think.
Our classily-draping leaf-printed crepe fabric is 150cm wide – there’s a midnight forest in every metre.
