We know we’re probably guilty of referring to our fabrics as ‘classic’ examples of one sort of cloth or another. However we’d like to think that’s probably because we like to offer you a canon of wardrobe basics which you can adapt and use in any number of ways. This midnight blue worsted wool fabric is, we’re afraid, another such ‘classic’. No apologies since this truly is a quality cloth and one which we can’t wait to play with.
This midnight blue worsted wool fabric isn’t the heaviest of wool cloths but that’s precisely why we think it’s so versatile. If you’re a fan of minimalist, stylish dressing of the kind that you might see in a Miyake or a Jean Muir collection from the 90s, say, then this is just the kind of wool you need to have a go with that kind of style. We’ve seen it in Cos on the high street too – simple, draping shapes, working with the body and using clever cutting to allow the natural flow of the fabric come to the fore.
Dresses, tunics, fitted or unfitted jackets are all options here – as are more traditional separates and suits. We’d say that our midnight blue worsted wool fabric is a medium-weight suiting. It has very good opacity for its weight and if you chose to use it without a lining for a dress or tunic for instance, then that would be just fine. However you might want to consider a lining, layering or a slip rather than wear it next to the skin perhaps – or to allow a garment to move against hosiery for instance.
The colour of this fabric is a true midnight navy blue – almost as dark as blue can be – but perhaps ever so slightly muted. Do ask us for a free sample if you’d like to check the colour – as we discuss in our Avoiding the navy blue blues blog item, identifying and using your perfect navy blue is important.
Our midnight blue worsted wool fabric It’s a 100% wool cloth and handles beautifully. It has a slightly crisp, draping handle. Its drape has substance and character – although it leans towards being a lighter-weight wool fabric it’s still a fairly robust and stable cl0th. As a worsted wool fabric, it has been woven from the longer, stronger woolen threads which lends it additional strength for its weight. Perfect for cross-season dressing – we hope you might have some fun with it.
We’ve teamed it here with our Ivory and navy blue leaf-printed crepe fabric – since they were found making friends in the corner of the workroom and we couldn’t bear to break them up.
Our midnight blue worsted wool fabric is 150cm wide – room for maximum minimalism in every metre.
