What is it about this metallic-silvered crepe fabric that drew our attention? Well – three things apart from the hint of glitz – the drape, the amazing drape and – oh, what was it? Ah – the drape. The fluidity of this metallic-silvered crepe fabric is simply stunning, as you can see in this video clip.
The underlying finely-woven black crepe fabric would be draping enough on its own – however the fine foil coating on the outer surface of the fabric subtly adds to the weight of the fabric, giving it a stunning swing and sense of movement.
This dark silver coating is a surface treatment – it’s not in the thread itself. This means that the untreated side of this metallic-silvered crepe fabric is as soft and comfortable next to the skin as you could want. We can think of all manner of garments would be simply stunning – not least the slip dresses and camisoles we discussed in our Slip Dress blog earlier this year. We’re eyeing up one to pop under a trusty leather jacket – and as for what to wear on the bottom half – did someone mention faux leather…?
This metallic-silvered crepe fabric has sufficient body and opacity we would contend, to cope with a blouse or camisole in its own right, with no lining required. Depending on your personal style and sense of daring, you might want to layer a slip dress over an underslip or lining, in which case our Simply-draping plain black crepe-de-chine fabric might be an option. All sorts of lingerie and loungewear are options – as are forays into the world of evening wear; dresses, skirts and blouses would all be stunning although we’d recommend that more draping designs rather than structured or closely-fitting garments would be preferable.
We recommend hand-washing and drip-drying this fabric in order to avoid damage to the silvered coating on this fabric, which coped very well with our test-wash by hand. Find out more about fabric care on our About our fabric pages
