At the time of writing we’re in high summer – but we’d suggest that’s no reason why a fabric such as this glowing purple and gold floral brocade fabric shouldn’t find a place in your wardrobe. We think it would make the most fabulous skirt – either played down with a plain white top – or perhaps maxed-out with a vibrant purple such as our ‘Byzantine’ draping purple viscose jersey fabric as in our images.
It’s the glowing dark coral ground of this purple and gold floral brocade fabric that says ‘summer’ to us – although if you’re planning a statement for later in the year, we’re sure this is a fabric that will continue to astound. However if it’s summer wear you’re thinking of, then you might also make the most of the silver and gold metallic threads in here by finding an opportunity to fish out those metallic sandals in your wardrobe…perhaps?
This is a fabric that leans towards the lighter-weight end of a medium-weight suiting fabric. It has very good opacity for its weight and it’s both pliable and stable to work with. It has a more comfortable handle than you might expect to look at it – and the satin-woven decoration is held tightly to the surface of the fabric. This is more a crisp fabric than a stiff one – it does hold a shape but it also falls and folds if there’s enough leeway in your garment. You can see how it moves and drapes in this video.
If a skirt is indeed your heart’s desire, then you could opt for for a more fitted design – however we think that the shaping, almost sculptural qualities of a cloth such as this glowing gold floral brocade fabric are crying out for pleats and tucks to provide shape, as we’ve suggested in our image. You could try a pattern such as the ‘Eleonora’ by Named Clothing – or indeed you could just have a play and work freehand…
Trousers might also be an option but you’ll want to build in some ease on a tailored or fitted style to make the most of the qualities of this gold floral brocade fabric. Another top tip might be a jacket – we fancy a casual or biker-style design for a bit of unecessary rebellion…
Hand wash to avoid damaging the texture of this fabric. We recommend spot-and dry-cleaning for lined garments. See our Fabric care pages for more details.
