We know that some of our customers enjoy using their dressmaking skills to comply with sober dress codes at work while being just a little bit different… We think this charcoal wool summer suiting fabric offers a perfect opportunity to achieve that delicate balance.
The ‘androgynous suit’ look is settling in as a staple fashion item as evidenced in many current collections, including the Givenchy SS15 collections as modeled by Julia Roberts. We think this is a fabric that will lend itself to a summer-weather version of what has become a perennial collection item. This charcoal wool summer suiting fabric has as its base a very dark-leaning-to-blue charcoal – but it is definitely a charcoal, and not a blue. That ground is overlaid with a tiny, finely woven check in a mid-grey thread. Lifting that all out of complete sobriety are a myriad of cyan, pale blue and kingfisher-blue slubs. Those dashes of colour are as brief and vibrant as a kingfisher caught in the corner of your eye on an overgrown riverside. they add edge and flair to this fabric. We can with assuredness tell you that once you see this charcoal wool summer suiting fabric, you won’t forget it. We saw it in a pile of samples when it didn’t scream at us – but afterwards we just couldn’t get it out of our heads, returned to the supplier and finally tracked it down.
We’d characterise this very much as a lighter-weight suiting fabric which we think will be elegant as trousers, jackets and skirts. We also think it would lend itself very well to a formal fitted dress – all of which would take you through the warmer season without melting. It has good opacity for its weight, but you’ll want to line it we imagine. if you were making a dress then you could try a bodice lining in a Plain 100% cotton lawn fabric in order to maintain your cool. For a softer touch however, you might want to try a satin lining. We have queues of both usually waiting to go online so if you can’t find the colour you want then just drop us a line and we can dig something out for you.
This is a 100% wool fabric. It seems to us that it’s pretty crease-resistant and it has a smooth, springy handle. It folds and presses up a treat – but we think that as a garment with a bit of width to it, it will drape and move with elegance.
This edgy charcoal wool summer suiting fabric is at least 150cm wide plus a bit – a dash of kingfisher in every metre
