We’re fully aware that what we have here is a very dark fabric which we’re offering in the middle of a heatwave. Ever ones to buck a trend if we have the opportunity, we would also observe that not only is khaki is one of the colours of summer 2017, we think this black white and khaki leaf-printed viscose jersey fabric is an awfully grown-up fabric. We like its edge, we admire its determination to be a little different and – well – we just love it to the extent that we’re having to put a ‘CHB’ (colleagues hold back) notice on it in the ClothSpot storeroom.

Not only does the green in this khaki leaf-printed viscose jersey fabric sit very nicely with the current trend for army shirts and muted green trousers, but the white-etched pattern will also look a bit fabulous with white jeans – another trend of 2017, should you be inclined to get brave.

This is a draping single-knit jersey but one with bit of substance to it as well. We always love playing with a decent draping fabric on the stand – but this one really was a dream to work with. If tightly-fitted around a curve, it manages to define a shape without losing any of its substance – and it gathers very nicely. It stretches in both directions – if a little more across its width – and you can see that stretch as well as its lovely swinging drape in this video.

Our khaki leaf-printed viscose jersey fabric is very definitely a good medium-weight single knit. We were particularly impressed with the close knit and its excellent opacity. It’s an excellent strong, solid and neutral shade of black, although as a print, it will show the lighter underlayer of the fabric if overstretched. For that reason we don’t think it’s a leggings option – however on the stand we didn’t find it an issue at all. As you can see we ruched and gathered to our heart’s content, using that negative ease with abandon.

All of these qualities make our khaki leaf-printed viscose jersey fabric a highly versatile cloth. Use it in a dress where gathers and a clever cut will allow it to fit, swing and move with your body. Alternatively this jersey would also work in a more fitted or bodycon design; dresses (long and short) tunics, tops and t-shirts are all options.

This classic Olivia Wrap Dress from Named Clothing would be the perfect project for our khaki leaf-printed viscose jersey fabric we think.

However something less fitted and more casual would suit the print and the fabric equally well.
