Silver striped ponte Roma jersey fabric – classic alert! When we select our new fabrics, we usually have our cutting table full of samples that have been shortlisted and then we play with stories that they might tell. Sometimes they play nicely with other selections – other times there’s a combination that hits us in the face. Occasionally however we spot something that just goes straight onto the order book. This silver striped ponte Roma jersey fabric is definitelyone of those (and yes, if you’re wondering – it’s the sister colourway to our Charcoal and grey striped ponte Roma jersey fabric which flew out last autumn). To get a ‘straight pass’ doesn’t mean that a fabric has to be spectacularly noticeable. However, quality is non-negotiable and it helps to have a certain classic look – which this silver striped ponte Roma jersey fabric has in spades.
We’ve observed before that jersey fabrics are excellent for cross-season dressing and this is no exception. It is not the drapiest of ponte Roma jersey fabric but it has a soft handle, super structure and a good firm width-wise stretch as you can see from this video.
Our black and silver striped ponte Roma jersey fabric has very good opacity and we think it would be perfect for form-fitting tops and dresses – wear it over leggings or with jeans to add warmth. It holds a shape and stands up for itself. This isn’t the kind of knit that you’d use for waterfall cardigans or draping wraps. Rather, it’s happier when it’s holding a shape – or when it’s being cut to fit and stretched a little to taste.
This is an ideal fabric for the classic ‘Coco’ tunic by Tilly & the Buttons – we think it has just the right amount of structure and stretch.
