Oh, how we love our mouflon coating fabrics. In part, we have to confess, because ‘mouflon’ simply has to be one of the top three most satisfying words in the fabric lexicon. It’s a phonetic summing up of being wrapped in cosy loveliness – and this arctic blue wool mouflon coating fabric is a wonderful example.
A ‘mouflon’ fabric is a wool whose surface has been teased up to create a soft, almost fleecy texture. This nap traps air, adds warmth (and a touch of luxury, we may say) without adding excess weight. Like a melton, its weave is barely discernible – this is a fabric that cuts clean and which won’t fray while you work it.
There are probably heavier, thicker coatings than our arctic blue wool mouflon coating fabric – but due to its construction there are few that will keep you as warm – certainly not without weighing you down considerably more. We’ve shown in one of our images how easily this fabric will wrap and fold. Its construction makes it easy to work; pliable yet stable and with a sense of movement and drape as you can see in this video.
We’d say that our arctic blue wool mouflon coating fabric lay somewhere between a medium-weight and a heavy-weight coating fabric – and we’ve called it a coating fabric because that’s most definitely what it is. That doesn’t mean you couldn’t fashion a stylishly snappy short skirt out of it – or a warm jacket. However we’re not sure you’d want this kind of weight as a trouser fabric – its forte is definitely outerwear.
The colour of our arctic blue wool mouflon coating fabric is a soft cerulean blue; the kind you might see in an icy northern sea and which might be complemented by a wide range of lining options. Might we suggest you take a look these for starters? We photographed it with our ‘Marimba jive’ floral digital printed peachskin fabric but you might equally try a soft, icy grey such as our Gleaming silver-grey satin fabric.
On the pattern front, we hear that a number of you are eyeing up the Tessuti ‘Oslo’ coat pattern. Far be it from us to discourage such fabulousness – we think our arctic blue wool mouflon coating fabric would be perfect for the job. We could happily spend the winter wrapped in that shawl collar. Mouflon!
