It took a split second to grab this fabric from the midst of a pile of samples and put it on our pile. This is a dark, yet soft taupe and lavender printed viscose fabric which we adore.
At first glance the background colour to this lavender printed viscose fabric is a charcoal – but actually it has more warmth and character – as a true taupe should it sits right between grey and brown – but with a muted, laid back tone. Close up, the lavender, rose and violet print pattern elements look like abstract daubings but in fact they’re deliberately unfocused floral digital images. A little bit techno, a smidgeon of tie-dye in mood, we think this is quite a grown-up fabric which for the record, looks quite lovely with our Draping soft lavender triple crepe fabric, as you can see from our image.
Our taupe and lavender printed viscose fabric is a medium-weight crepe-de-chine weave with good opacity for its weight. It would probably require a lining for more formal daywear, but as you can see from this blog post, we thew caution to the wind with our slip dress. Stand in front of the sun and yes – there’s going to be a silhouette – but we’re so happy to see said sun that we’re not giving it a thought. If you do though, then a half-slip might be advisable.
This is a fabric with a fabulous, rippling, flowing drape as you can see from this video.
It presses beautifully and is remarkably well-behaved to work with; we cut our dress on the cross without undue difficulty. It has a classic crepe-de-chine texture and didn’t slip around on our machine – although we did take our time with the cutting, just to make sure the grainline was accurate.
The pattern we used was this Slip Dress pattern by BurdaStyle.
