Blue and white striped shirts are the definition of crisp, cool style this summer – however the potential fabrics we’d managed to unearth were just – well – missing a certain something. That is, until we came upon this delightful crisp blue striped cotton mix shirting fabric.
There’s a complexity and sophistication to this rather special blue striped cotton mix shirting fabric that isn’t immediately apparent save for the width of those bold – yet still somehow restrained – blue stripes.
Upon closer inspection, that blue is interwoven with a white thread – significantly, this is a woven stripe. Furthermore the white bands between the blue are twill-woven, bringing excellent opacity to this fabric, as well as a beautifully-smooth handle.
As with our Classic crisp white cotton mix shirting fabric, this is a cotton and polyester mix – but as with that fabric, we assure you that you’d never guess. This is a fabric with class, still with a high cotton content (breatheability!) but also a resistance to creasing. In short, the perfect summer shirting fabric.
Our crisp, classy blue striped cotton mix has a lovely drape and a lively spring to it as you can see from this video.
We couldn’t resist having a play with it – and can report that it presses and sews like an absolute dream; it also carries a gather with elegance as you can see from our image.
If you fancy a bit of summer gathering (and who wouldn’t?) then you might want to have a look at the ‘Ellie Mae’ top or tunic options from StyleArc patterns.
