The combination of soft mauve-purple and a muted ochre gold is a classic one. Almost opposite each other on the colour wheel – these are colours with a rich history. They can of course be a vibrant eyeful of a colour combination but here they are knocked right back with a neutral, cool stone colour covering a good deal of this distinctive print pattern. With shades of William Morris, we think our ochre and soft purple floral cotton lawn fabric is a summer classic.
With a refined, fine weave and a gently-crisp handle, we think our ochre and purple floral cotton lawn fabric is the perfect fabric in which to stay cool on a hot summer’s day. It’s a lighter-weight Pima cotton lawn fabric, perfect for summer layering. The close weave and the print pattern remove the need for lining a top or tunic, although for a dress you might want to look at one of our Plain 100% cotton lawn fabrics just to add bring a little modesty and substance to the proceedings. Our personal recommendation would be the Soft pistachio or Soft purple colourways – both pick up the colours here beautifully.

We think this fabric is perfect for summer tops and blouses – and, we think, gently-falling maxi dresses. We’d be inclined to make the most of its lighter weight with ruches and softly-rolling gathers, bringing body and movement to a garment without bulkiness. However we think a classic floral pattern such as this would also be rather lovely as a cool summer shirt – in which case a pattern such as this Button Up Blouse from BurdaStyle would be a fabulously relaxed way to breeze through the sun…
